If Myeongdong is your first must-visit destination upon landing at Incheon International Airport in Seoul, you will be pleased to know that there are 3 different ways to get to Myeongdong from the airport. The first way is by using a bus and this way is the most economical and convenient way to get to Myeongdong from Incheon International Airport.
In order to get to Myeongdong, you will have to take the bus number 6015 and this bus can be found at either exit 5B or exit 11B that is located outside the arrival hall at the first floor of Incheon International Airport. After you walked out from the arrival hall, start looking for the signage that shows 5B or 11B with a bus icon beside it. A list of destinations will be displayed on this signage too. Myeongdong can be seen on the second list along with the number 6015 beside it.
The bus is well-maintained and the seats are comfortable to sit on. In addition, there are plenty of spaces for you to put your language hence you don’t have to worry if you are carrying a huge luggage as the bus is specifically designed to cater for passengers from Incheon International Airport. The adult bus fare for one way trip from Incheon International Airport to Myeondong costs South Korean Won 15,000 which is approximately USD 13. This ticket price was just recently updated on 24th of April 2016. You can purchase the ticket from the ticket booth inside the arrival hall at the first floor of Incheon International Airport. These bus ticketing counters are located near to Gate 4, 6, 7, 8, 11, 13 and 9C. All you need to do is to tell the person at the ticket counter that you want to purchase a bus ticket for bus 6015 to Myeongdong.
Bus 6015 will depart from Incheon International Airport to Myeongdong on every 20 to 35 minutes. During peak hours, the waiting time can be long as 20 minutes before you are able to get into the bus. The first bus departs as early as 5.35AM in the morning and the last bus departs at 10.50PM in the evening. The bus journey to Myeongdong takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes and this is also depending on the traffic condition at the downtown of Seoul.
For those of you who are staying at Hotel Nine Tree, Myeongdong Skypark 3 Hotel or Hotel PJ at Myeongdong, you will be happy to know that this Bus 6015 will take you directly to the front entrance of your hotel. The name of the station that is located at Nine Tree Hotel and Myeongdong Skypark 3 Hotel is known as Myeongdong Station and the name of the station that is located at Hotel PJ is known as Chungmuro Station.
Subway or Train
The second way is to take the AREX train or Seoul Subway to get to Myeongdong from Incheon International Airport. Unlike Bus 6015 that will take you directly to Myeongdong, you will need to change train line at Seoul Station if you use the train. This way is also not advisable if you are carrying a huge luggage as you will need to walk about 5 minutes to change the train line from AREX to Seoul Subway Line 4. Besides that, the subway station is located underground and the stairs are quite steep and the walkway might be bumpy for lugging your luggage. In order to take a train to Myeongdong from Incheon International Airport, you will first need to take the Airport Railway Express (AREX) train to Seoul Station. After that, you will need to change to Line 4 of the Seoul Metropolitan Subway to get to Myeongdong station that is located two stations away from Seoul Station. The entire train journey excluding the walking time takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. A one-way ticket from Incheon International Airport to AREX Seoul Station costs South Korean Won 14,300 which is approximately USD 12.60. However, there is a special discounted fare that you can take advantage of from 1st of January 2016 to 31st of December 2016. The special discounted fare only costs South Korean Won 8,000 which is approximately USD 7. In addition to this fare, the subway ticket price from AREX Seoul Station to Myeongdong station costs South Korean Won 1,250. In total, the entire fare from Incheon International Airport to Myeongdong costs South Korean Won 9,250 which is approximately USD 8.15.
You can either purchase the AREX train ticket at the Airport Train Information Centre that is located inside the arrival hall or using a vending machine. The noticeable Airport Train information centre is donned in orange colour and the service staffs can understand and speak English fluently. The menu in the vending machine is also available in 4 different languages: Korean, English, Chinese and Japanese so this makes it easy for foreigners to purchase the train ticket without experiencing any language barriers. The first AREX train will depart from Incheon International Airport to AREX Seoul Station at 5.30AM in the morning and the last train will depart at 9.30PM in the evening. If you want easy access to the Seoul Subway station, you can either choose to stay at Sejong Hotel or Nine Tree Hotel. Sejong Hotel is located near exit 10 while Nine Tree Hotel is located 150 meters from exit 9.
The last method is to take a taxi from Incheon International Airport to Myeongdong. This is the most expensive option and it will cost you South Korean Won 65,000 and an additional South Korean Won 7,700 for toll charges. However, this is the best choice if you are looking for the most comfortable way to get to Myeongdong and have the budget for it. The taxi can take you right up to the front entrance of your chosen hotel or anywhere that you wish to stop in Myeongdong. There are two international taxi counters that you can hire a taxi. The first counter is located between the exit of Gate 4 and Gate 5 in the arrival hall and the desk number is 23. The second counter is located between the exit of Gate 8 and Gate 9 in the arrival and the desk number is 46. Just approach the friendly service staff behind the counter and let him or her know that you would like to hire an international taxi to get to Myeongdong or give them the exact location that you wished to be dropped off or the name of your hotel.
You can choose between medium, luxury and large taxis. A medium taxi can only carry 3 adult passengers and 2 to 3 luggage depending on the size of the luggage. A luxury taxi can carry 3 adult passengers and 4 luggage. Finally, a large taxi can carry up to a total of 7 adult passengers and 7 luggage. The prices for the luxury and large taxis are generally more expensive than the medium taxi and they cost South Korean Won 95,000.
